ABOUT/MEANING: “Rise” is about continuing to believe in your own path even when progress is uneven. The narrator walks, stumbles and cries, sometimes moving forward only to step backwards again, but refuses to let those struggles break him. Although giving up might temporarily make things easier, the song recognises that the greatest obstacle can sometimes come from within - the part of yourself that doubts whether continuing is worthwhile.
Rather than expecting the journey towards the future to follow a straight line, “Rise” embraces its detours. Worn-out shoes, sweat and difficult experiences become evidence of how far you have travelled and, eventually, something worth treasuring. Like the sun inevitably rising after even the darkest night, setbacks do not have to be permanent. What matters is holding onto your strength, continuing to try and trusting that you can rise again.
