SUMMARY: 7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns marks a quiet but defining transition in TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s discography. For the first time, the group steps beyond the long-running coming-of-age narrative that shaped their music from debut through The Star Chapter, turning the focus inward - towards themselves, their relationship with one another and the complicated emotions surrounding their future as TXT.
The album grew from a pivotal moment in the members’ own lives. As their contract renewal created a natural opportunity to reflect on seven years together, the creative team conducted extensive individual interviews with each member about their experiences and emotions. Those conversations found an unexpected parallel in “Thorn Tree” by Korean folk band Poet and Village Chief, whose image of a person containing tangled and conflicting selves resonated with the complexity the members had expressed. It inspired the album’s central image: thorns continually battered by the wind experiencing a brief moment of stillness.
The title therefore represents something more complicated than overcoming hardship. The “thorns” evoke the contradictions, anxieties and desires accumulated across seven transformative years, while the “moment of stillness” offers a temporary pause within them - a chance to look backwards, take stock of the present and consider what might lie ahead. The thorns have not disappeared, nor has uncertainty been resolved; for a moment, the wind has simply stopped.
At this seven-year threshold, continuing together is no longer merely the path TXT have been following, but something they have consciously chosen again. Across six tracks, 7TH YEAR moves through anxiety, release, defiance and reflection before arriving somewhere deliberately unresolved: not at certainty about the future, but at curiosity about it and a willingness to keep moving forward together.
Rather than continuing TXT’s original coming-of-age story, 7TH YEAR reveals what comes after it: five adults and artists pausing within the complexities of who they have become before considering where they want to go next.
