ABOUT/MEANING: “CROWN,” TXT’s debut title track, uses the surreal image of horns suddenly growing from a boy’s head to represent the confusing and overwhelming changes of adolescence. Frightened by something that makes him feel abnormal and alone, he initially sees the horns as a deformity - reflecting the insecurity, alienation and discomfort that can accompany growing up and discovering parts of yourself that seem different from everyone else.
His perspective changes when he meets “you,” someone whose own difference is represented by wings. Rather than making him feel more abnormal, this connection allows him to recognise that he is not alone. Crucially, the horns themselves do not disappear; what changes is the meaning he gives them. Something he once regarded as monstrous can now be imagined as a crown. Being accepted by someone who understands his difference helps him begin to see that difference differently himself, transforming what once felt like a burden into something he can embrace as part of who he is.
The song also reflects TXT’s own experiences growing up together. In an interview with Teen Vogue, Yeonjun connected “CROWN” to his own “growing pains” during his trainee years:
“During that time, I went through those kinds of growing pains, and I only overcame those hard times after meeting our members. They help me, we always solve problems together, and I can perform onstage because of them.”
As TXT’s debut song, “CROWN” establishes an idea that will recur throughout their coming-of-age story: connection can transform the way we understand the parts of ourselves that once made us feel alone. Difference does not need to disappear for belonging to become possible; sometimes being understood by another person helps us learn how to understand ourselves.
