ABOUT/MEANING: “Dear Sputnik” captures the loneliness of drifting through a vast, cold world while searching for someone with whom to share the journey. Its central image draws on Sputnik, the name of the first artificial satellite and a Russian word meaning “fellow traveller” or “travelling companion.” Against the emptiness of space, “you” become exactly that: another traveller whose presence transforms an otherwise solitary journey.
The cosmic imagery gives companionship both warmth and direction. Where the boy once wandered alone without knowing where he was headed, finding someone beside him creates the possibility of moving towards a future together. The surrounding darkness has not disappeared, but it becomes less frightening when there is another light within it.
Within The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE, “Dear Sputnik” offers another response to the isolation running throughout the album. Rather than escaping the cold world or waiting for it to change, the song finds hope in discovering someone willing to cross it with you. Connection does not guarantee an easy journey or destination, but it means no longer having to face the unknown alone.

CONTEXT/EXPLANATION: Sputnik 1, launched by the Soviet Union in 1957, was the world's first artificial satellite. Its name comes from the Russian спутник (sputnik), meaning a “travelling companion” or “fellow traveller,” as well as a satellite. The double meaning is central to the song: against the vastness of space, “you” become the companion the boy has been searching for - someone with whom he can continue his journey rather than travelling alone.

CONNECTION: “You're my one and only” echoes “0X1=LOVESONG,” where “you” are the boy's “1 & only” within a world of zero. Both songs position one person as a singular source of meaning within an otherwise empty world, although “Dear Sputnik” shifts the emphasis from desperately clinging to that person towards travelling forward beside them as companions.

CONNECTION: The image of “you” melting the boy's frozen hands continues one of The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE's central contrasts. In “0X1=LOVESONG,” “you” are the warmth found within a world of ice, while “Magic” describes connection awakening a heart that had “froze.” Here, even a “single warmth” is enough to begin melting the cold once the two travellers finally meet.

CONNECTION: “Please make me believe in eternity” gives TXT's recurring idea of “eternity” a more uncertain meaning. Earlier songs such as “Run Away” imagined being together forever as something the boy could readily wish for, before The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY challenged his belief that important relationships would necessarily last. Here, he no longer takes eternity for granted - he asks his travelling companion to help him believe in it again, before imagining an endless journey they can continue together.
